This canyon is part of the river valley of the Jerma River, which stretches for 72 kilometers. It is located between the imposing rocks of the Wallachian Mountains along the left bank and Greben Mountain on the right bank of the river, creating a picturesque scenery. Do 1927. godine, kanjon reke Jerme <\/strong>bio je potpuno izolovan i neprohodan za prolaz, sve dok nije do\u0161lo do istorijskog trenutka kada je trasa uskog koloseka \u017eeleznice probijena kroz ovu divlju klisuru. Ovaj presudan doga\u0111aj se dogodio u cilju obezbe\u0111ivanja pristupa rudniku kamena uglja poznatom kao „Rakita“. Tokom \u0161ezdesetih godina 20. veka, rudnik je zatvoren, a sedamdesetih godina izgra\u0111en je asfaltni put, zamenjuju\u0107i \u017eelezni\u010dku prugu.<\/p>\n

This construction of the road opened the door to the natural beauty of the Jerma River canyon and the Poganovsko Monastery, which is located right next to the river.
