Skiing in Bulgaria has experienced a natural expansion in the last few years. Due to affordable prices and everything they have to offer, winter centers in Bulgaria are increasingly popular in the region, and we can safely say in Europe as well. Most people come from Serbia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Western European countries. The most visited and largest ski center in Bulgaria is Bansko. The total length of the ski tracks is 70 kilometers, and there are more than 120 accommodation facilities of different categories for tourists. Bansko is also a city, so in addition to unforgettable skiing, this place also offers a dynamic nightlife, in which the main actors are various bars and taverns. The town itself is located at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. Therefore, it has a harsher continental climate.<\/p>

The new gondola provides skiing and snowboarding for both professionals and beginners. The ski resort is 2 kilometers from the city and located on the northern slopes of the Pirin mountain. Apart from the gondola, the ski center has six four-seaters, one six-seater, one three-seater, and four anchors. Most pitches have an artificial snow system, enabling an extended season in Bansko from December 15 to May 15.<\/p>

The ski slopes are divided into two main parts. The first is \u010calin Valog (1100-1600m), with blue trails that lead to the place itself, and the second is \u0160iligarnik (1700-2500m), located on the slopes of Todorka peak (2746m). Most trails are categorized as red and blue. There are eight blue, 11 red, and two black lanes. The black Tomba track is especially famous, named after the legendary Italian skier Alberto Tombi, who, together with another great man of this sport, Marco Girardelli, was the promoter of Bansko. World Cup races are held on the mentioned track. There is also a fun park for snowboarders and freestyle lovers.<\/p>

The slopes are exceptionally well maintained, providing absolute pleasure when skiing, especially on the slopes that start from the highest point of the ski resort at 2600 meters. Unfortunately, a fluid ride without constant stops is often impossible due to the large crowds on the slopes and many beginners in skiing. Groups are especially noticeable during the holiday periods and in February during the Women's and Men's World Cups because several tracks are closed for training and racing.<\/p>

The history of Bansko goes deep into the past. Thracians originally inhabited this area; after that, Rome and Byzantium ruled it. In the 7th century, this area was inhabited by South Slavs. It was part of medieval Bulgaria from the 9th to the 14th century. After that, it fell under the rule of the Ottomans, who ruled for the next five centuries. In 1912, the city became part of the modern Bulgarian state. This popular Bulgarian ski resort is located on the gentle slopes of the Rila mountain. Only 73 kilometers (about an hour's drive) from Sofia, it is an ideal place to go for at least one day of skiing, even if you live in the southeastern part of Serbia.<\/p>

The history of Borovets as a winter center dates back to 1896, making it the oldest winter center in Bulgaria. Due to its natural beauty and wildlife, it was initially planned as a hunting ground for the Bulgarian kings. Due to its increasing popularity among the Bulgarian population, it has gradually developed into a modern ski resort with plenty of hotels, bars, restaurants, and authentic taverns offering traditional Bulgarian specialties. Because of everything it offers, it didn't take long for foreigners to visit this winter resort.<\/p>
