Dimitrovgrad
Dimitrovgrad, a city located in the southeast of Serbia, just a few kilometers from the border with Bulgaria, is a natural oasis for lovers of nature, history, and culture. This hidden gem offers much, from rich history and sights to delicious culinary specialties and exciting events. In this article, we will present the most beautiful aspects of Dimitrovgrad and convince you to visit it.
Where is Dimitrovgrad Located?
Dimitrovgrad is located in the Pirot district, and according to the latest census from 2022, about 8,000 inhabitants live in the territory of the Dimitrovgrad municipality. Previously, this city was part of the territory that belonged to Bulgaria and was known under the name of Caribrod. The name change occurred in 1951 when the town received its current name in honor of Georgi Dimitrov, the Bulgarian president. Since 2008, the Dimitrovgrad municipal assembly councilors have launched an initiative to return the old name Caribrod. This fact is unsurprising because Dimitrovgrad and Bosilegrad are the only two municipalities in Serbia where the majority of the Bulgarian population is the majority.
