Where are the Rosomacki Lonci located?
On the slopes of Stara Planina, only 40 kilometers from Dimitrovgrad, there is Rosomače Canyon, popularly known as the Serbian Colorado. This location has other names like Rosomacki Lonci, Slavinjsko grlo, Rosomacko grlo, etc…
This magical destination may have many names, but it is unique in its appearance. There is certainly nothing similar in Serbia, and more widely (to be modest and say at least in Europe).
How was Canyon Rosomača formed?
Created millions of years ago, the Canyon of river Rosomacka is a natural phenomenon that will forever be etched in the memory of every visitor due to its beauty.
The creator of this beautiful canyon is the Rosomaca river, which cut the canyon several million years ago. Smaller than its distant relative from Colorado, this canyon is up to 5 meters wide, at its highest points up to 70 meters high, and about 500 meters long, with quite enough dimensions to leave any visitor breathless.
Carved out of layered limestone rocks, the cut extensions resemble pots and cauldrons, which is why this place got one of its many names, “Rosomacki lonci”.
When and how to visit Canyon Rosomača?
You should visit this beautiful destination in the spring or summer months when its full beauty comes to the fore. Of course, nothing less attractive radiates in the autumn and winter months, but the warmer months are more suitable due to the very approach to the destination.
The most beautiful view of the Serbian Colorado is from the left edge of the canyon, which can be reached by climbing the rocks without much effort.
