Waterfall Tri Kladenca
Located in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of Stara Planina (the Balkan Mountains), the Tri Kladenca waterfall is a true natural oasis for adventure enthusiasts and lovers of untouched nature. This magnificent waterfall, hidden among lush vegetation and surrounded by mountain peaks, is situated on the Dojkinačka River within the strict nature reserve of Arbinje, at an altitude of 1,650 meters. The source of the Dojkinačka River, named Tri Kladenca, originates from the peak Kopren, one of the highest peaks of Stara Planina.
The Tri Kladenca waterfall has become a destination for those looking to escape the everyday routine and immerse themselves in pristine nature, untouched by human influence. Although it was largely unknown to the public until about ten years ago, it now attracts passionate visitors eager to experience true wilderness. Every step toward this waterfall offers spectacular views and the chance to enjoy the natural beauty of Stara Planina.
How to Reach the Tri Kladenca Waterfall
The adventure begins in the village of Dojkinci, where a dirt road follows the course of the Dojkinačka River. The first stop along this road is the Tupavica waterfall, located about 4.5 kilometers from the mountain lodge. At this point, the road turns right, crossing a wooden bridge over the river, and continues through the Međudolski dol area, where Tupavica is located.
Further along, you’ll reach two smaller but equally impressive waterfalls, Draganov Vir and Jovin Vir, about three kilometers from Tupavica. An old house near the road serves as a landmark for turning toward these waterfalls. Continuing on, you’ll arrive at the Ladna Voda spring, approximately 4.5 kilometers away. From there, the dirt road turns into a trail leading to the Tri Kladenca waterfall, bringing you closer to one of the most beautiful parts of the mountain – Arbinje.
Mountain Ascent to Tri Kladenca
The journey from the mountain lodge to the Ladna Voda spring covers a distance of about 12.5 kilometers, and only off-road vehicles or those with high ground clearance can navigate this terrain. In the village of Dojkinci, it is possible to rent off-road vehicles, making it easier to reach the spring.
From the Ladna Voda spring to the last bridge at an altitude of 1,490 meters, the road narrows and leads to a junction where two streams – Belčin Dol and the Dojkinačka River – meet. Crossing the final concrete bridge marks the beginning of the mountain trail to the Tri Kladenca waterfall. Recently marked with hiking signs, this trail winds through dense vegetation, occasionally encountering muddy patches.
The hike to the waterfall takes about an hour and involves traversing steep terrain. However, every effort is rewarded upon reaching the point where a red flag directs you to the path leading to the Dojkinačka River. The trail continues toward a large rock with a red arrow pointing left toward the waterfall. This section of the trail follows the river’s course, with the impressive nature of Stara Planina accompanying you every step of the way.
Tri Kladenca – Untouched Nature for True Adventurers
The Tri Kladenca waterfall is a perfect destination for lovers of untouched nature. While still relatively unknown to a broader audience, this waterfall offers a unique experience for those willing to conquer steep mountain trails and lush vegetation. Over the years, the waterfall has remained hidden, and its pristine surroundings testify to the minimal human influence in this part of the mountain.
Visiting the Tri Kladenca waterfall is not just a physical activity but a journey through unspoiled nature. With every step, you discover more of what Stara Planina has to offer. The 2.5-kilometer hike from the last bridge takes you through a true paradise for the eyes – a natural environment in its purest form, free from litter or signs of civilization.
